Laïd Biou

Founder of Plus d'Oxygène association

My first steps began in my childhood in the Kabyle mountains in Algeria.

During my education in Paris, I already showed a strong interest in geography and other cultures. Subsequently, my commercial training in tourism and project management allowed me to refine my vocation. With an intense sporting practice from a young age, all the ingredients were there for me to embark on a life of solidarity walking.

Initially, it was a personal journey, crisscrossing natural spaces on every continent: from the volcanoes of Indonesia to the deserts of South America, through the Himalayas… not forgetting the Alps and the High Atlas. And, of course, it was followed by the desert – especially the king of deserts, the Sahara – marking my encounter with Moussa in January 2018. It was alongside my Tuareg friends, after many crossings of the Tassilis, that I was able to immerse myself in these unique landscapes.

The desire then arose to share this passion for adventure as well as to help the needy populations of these isolated regions we traveled. The Plus d’Oxygène association also emerged from this realization: to be useful to our planet, we must first learn to understand it, as well as understand the peoples who live there. In short, to travel responsibly.

But my commitment doesn’t stop there. As the father of Adam, a young child with autism, I continue the adventure today with hikes for children with disabilities.

Through walking, international solidarity, with the organization of concrete actions in consultation with local populations to meet needs, here or beyond our borders, my goal is to travel responsibly. We are all hummingbirds, and each can do their part for a better world.
