Kind of Tour : Donkey Trek

This circuit is offered in the form of a Donkey Trek adventure involving daily walks. It can also be experienced as a camel trek (riding on camels).

Level : Moderate Level (5 to 6 hours of walking per day)

Embark on an enriching journey through the Tassili N’Ajjer, a UNESCO World Heritage site, home to the world’s largest collection of prehistoric rock art. This unique expedition, a blend of 4×4 exploration and trekking, offers a profound exploration of the Algerian desert. For 6000 years, nomadic shepherds adorned the cliffs with magnificent frescoes, creating an open-air museum that narrates the tales of ancient times.

Program :

Day 01 :
Arrival at Djanet airport, greeted by the Tuareg team. Transfer to the base of the Tafelalet cliff in a 4×4. Meet our team of donkey drivers and donkeys.

Day 02 :
An early ascent of the cliffs through the Tafelalaet pass (650m). Explore the first millennium cypress and walk to Tamarit Canyon. Visit the cave paintings of Tan Zoumaïtak. Return to Tamriat and camp at Wan Gouffa.

Day 03 :
Hike through the Forest of Needles in Itinen, encountering paintings (chariots, archers, cattle) and reach Tin Tazarift with large murals of dancers and swimmers. Camp at Tin Tazarift.

Day 04 :
Explore and continue to Sefar « white » housing wonders of rock art in a maze of sand and rocky peaks. Countless paintings depict animals and life in ancient times. In the afternoon, enter the ‘black’ Sefar with darker and stonier surroundings, filled with paintings (African masks, Negroid characters, fertility scenes, etc.). Camp at Sefar.

Day 05 :
Visit cave paintings and canyons at Tin Taferaiste, revealing varied landscapes with archers, hunting scenes, and cattle. Camp at TiRassoutine.

Day 06 :
Visit cave paintings and varied landscapes, spotting two cypresses. Reach the site (Allagh-N’damente) for a bivouac.

Day 07 :
Cross the Stones Plateau and reach Idjabaren in the afternoon for a visit. This site is abundant with thousands of paintings depicting giants, lyre-bearing cattle, round heads, hunters, etc. Camp overnight.

Day 08 :
Descend from the plateau in the afternoon through Akba Arom. Transfer to Djanet, take a hamam (shower), visit the market, and explore the city center. Afterward, transfer to Tirarart for a visit to the famous « crying cow » rock carving. Camp overnight. Transfer to Djanet airport for departure.
